SUMMARY:The Secret Life of Bees and Cooking with Honey
DESCRIPTION:About This Class: \nWant to know more about Beekeeping?  Even if you don’t want your own hives\, this is a fascinating subject that we should all know more about. We will talk about getting started and what it takes to keep a hive or two going and show you the inner workings of hive boxes and bee equipment.  You will get a look into the mesmerizing life cycle of the honey bee and the mind-blowing supremacy of the Queen Bee! \nWe’ll spend some time with Darin\, VP of the Hays County Beekeepers Association\, our guest guide for this fascinating journey!  Then for those adventurous souls\, you’ll get a to suit up and take a quick trip out to the bee yard to pull a frame or two.  Darin will help us to identify some important stages of activity in the hive such as looking for new eggs (the size of a rice grain!)\, looking for larva (like snowy white grubs!) and then capped larva\, all to insure the presence and a timeline for a healthy brood laying queen!   We’ll look for the hives pollen supply (sometimes in a rainbow of colors!) and check to see if the hive has sufficient honey stored for us to take some back to the Kitchen. \nWhen we head to the Kitchen\, we’ll prepare a wonderful lunch using honey in our recipes. \n\nComplimentary Welcome Nibble and Cocktail: \n\nBee’s Knees  (Made with Local Gin!)  and Bee’s Wings (Made with Local Whiskey!)\nHoney Bee Brie Bites with Honey Lavender Apricot  Syrup\nSpanish Fig Honey Cake with Cheeses\n\n\nClass Lunch: \n\nGrilled Salmon with Beekeepers Sauce\nPretzel Crusted Chicken with Hot Honey Drizzle\nFresh Fruit Salad with Honey Cinnamon Yogurt Dressing\nMediterranean Grain Salad with Honey Orange Fig Dressing on Arugula\nAlmond Elderflower Honey Cakes\n\nRegister Now
